Its main objective was to explore the efficacy of Homoeopathic treatment in Scabies infection in Adivasi children attending AshramShalas(resident schools) in Palghar and Vikramgarh taluka, District Thane, Maharashtra. 300 cases were enrolled and divided into 3 treatment groups i.e. Constitutional group, Acute / Sector group and Placebo group. Scabies infection was diagnosed & graded. The children were observed for 2 years. All treatment groups were subjected to standard hygienic measures during the study. Results were analyzed at the end of each year. The prevalence of scabies in the school dropped from 52% to 17% while that in other residential schools in the same area showed no reduction. There was statistically significant improvement in Constitutional group as compared to other 2 groups.
3. Acute Diarrhoeal Disorders & its Homeopathic management-
Principal Investigator: Dr M. K. Patel
Team: Dr Prashant Tamboli, Dr Navin Pawaskar, Dr. Manasi Rao
Project Period: November 2004 – November 2007
Recurrence of diarrhoea in children is a major concern as it affects the growth of the child. Hence this study was undertaken to verify the efficacy of Homoeopathic medicines in the treatment of acute diarrhoea and exploring the role of Constitutional medicine in preventing its recurrence. A sample size of 300 children was selected from 10 Anganwadi (day care centre) from the tribal population having known high prevalence of diarrhoea. Randomized case control, single blind method was used to prove the efficacy of the acute medicines. For this purpose, the sample was divided into three groups viz. Acute remedy group, Acute remedy followed by Constitutional remedy and 3rdly, Placebo group as a control. Results of the study clearly demonstrated that, there is statistical significant role of homoeopathic medicines in altering the course of acute diarrhoea and decreasing the intensity and frequency of further episodes. This treatment strategy also showed a definite positive response in the general well being of the child in terms of weight gain and general activity.

4. Learning Disability & Homoeopathic Management:
Principal Investigator: Dr K M Dhawale
Research Team: Dr Madhavi Tamboli, Shweta Marathe, Mariyam Katawala,
It is a known fact that, in spite of having adequate educational inputs many children performs poorly in academics. Learning disability is one of the major difficulties identified in recent years. These children face difficulties in one or several areas of reading, writing, spelling or arithmetic. A prospective Placebo control study was undertaken to understand the role of homoeopathy in the management of Learning disabilities. A standard screening & evaluation procedure was evolved for the vernacular medium. Total 2545 students were evaluated and 92 cases were diagnosed. Assessment of the progress was also done on specially developed form. The results of homoeopathic treatment showed statically significant changes in reading, written expression & comprehension.
Summary of Few projects:
1. Homoeopathic remedy vis-à-vis Ferrum Phos 6x in Anaemia during Ante natal period
Principal Investigator: Dr Prashant Tamboli
Senior Research Fellow: Dr Devangini Broker
Primary Objectives were to study the changes in Hb level & in subjective and objective parameters, in anaemia during pregnancy in tribal area, by giving indicated remedy and Ferrum Phos 6x. The symptom syndrome coming up as per trimester was also studied. Study also documented the effect homoeopathic medicines on the recurrence of the infections during ante natal period. A sample size of 180 was divided in 3 groups of 60 each. Very interestingly the methodology was planned such that mild & moderate anaemia patients can be studied by a combination of indicated Homoeopathic medicines, FP 6x and placebo. The changes in Hb. level were statistically analyzed & it showed statistical difference in treatment & placebo group. Read full report to see the treatment groups, indications of medicines & common illnesses coming up in ANC period.
2. Understanding the impact of Homoeopathic awareness Campaign in rural & Tribal Community
Principal Investigator: Dr Prashant Tamboli
Research Team: Dr. C R Goda, Naresh Dhanwa, Dr. Mohammad Sayyad, Dr Devangini Broker
Dr M L Dhawale Trust (MLDT) has been providing homoeopathic health care services in rural & tribal areas of Vikramgarh taluka for more than 15 years. After years of experience of working in these areas it was understood that for getting sustained patient’s compliance, the community need to be oriented about homoeopathy as a Science. Community was oriented by help of Community Health Volunteers and by giving continuous homoeopathic mobile services. They were oriented with help of posters & by conducting regular meetings.
A Pre & Post survey was done of 17 villages involving 235 samples. The awareness of homoeopathy was assessed through a structured questionnaire. The statistical analysis was done to verify the change in community’s perspective towards homoeopathy. The difference was statistically significant. The role of Community health Volunteer was very important in spreading awareness. This report helps us in understanding homoeopathy as a system of medicine in the community where they have their own preconceived ideas regarding medicines. On reading the entire report you can get to know more about how the questionnaire was designed so as to achieve this awareness and also various orientation strategies used.
3. Homoeopathy in COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)-
Principal Investigator: Dr Bipin Jain
Senior Research Fellow: Dr Ankita Modak
There are a rising number of respiratory illnesses in both urban & rural population. It is due to various factors like changes in lifestyle, addictions and environmental changes. COPD is ranks 2nd in India for its incidence and prevalence, next to Pulmonary Tuberculosis. This project evaluates the efficacy of Homoeopathic treatment of COPD by correlating subjective evaluation with objective parameters. A case series study of 30 cases was carried out & patients were prescribed indicated Homoeopathic remedy either chronic or phasic along with Intercurrent remedy based on the characteristic symptoms & grade of COPD. Patients with allopathic treatment like inhalers were also included in the study and then gradually tapered. The main aim was to co-relate subjective findings with the objective parameters and investigations and hence regular peak flow meter test and Pulmonary function test was conducted. Results were analyzed at the end of 1.5 year for evolving management strategy for COPD. It is concluded that indicated Homoeopathic medicine helps in improving the functional capacity of the lungs, preventing acute exacerbations and secondary infections. & Quality of life of patients had also improved.
4. Homoeopathy & Labor Management
Principal Investigator: Dr Dinesh Rao
Junior Research Fellows: Dr Reshma Surve
The main objective was Exploring the Role of Homoeopathy in the Induction & Augmentation of Labour. After the initial step of understanding the process of normal labor & its deviation, the most important & challenging stage was the use of a Partograph. Standardization & Application of partograph in normal labor to all IPD cases of Dahisar & Malad was done. For this, it was very essential to standardize guidelines for plotting a partograph. And finally, to understand the action of homeopathic remedy used for augmentation & induction of labour. A standardized protocol for Case taking in labour was formulated. It was a 6 months prospective study & it can be concluded that Homoeopathic medicines act efficiently in management of Labor.
